As much as I tend to stick to my classic and timeless fashion mantras, I always feel intrigued to check out what the upcoming faces in the industry have to showcase. For this reason, I've always had a particular liking for the New Designers Show at Malta Fashion Week every single year.
This year's edition saw a multitude of designs by ten of Malta's freshest creators in fashion design. From bags to hats, from couture to ready-to-wear, variety was as omnipresent as the young designers' enthusiasm.
As usual, everyone gets the opportunity to select their 'personal favourite'. Unlike other years, I cannot quite say there was a particular designer I was crazy about this time. Instead, they were a few pieces from a number of different designers that I liked more than the rest. So I'm gonna share because I'm that altruistic.
The first piece is a black bag by Bags by Dali, pictured above. What struck me in particular is the versatility, comfort and timeless nature of the bag. The interlacing detailing gives the accessory extra dimension and well, it's something that I don't get to see much of.
I remember writing about Creative Factory 7 a few years back. Was it two years ago? The design team definitely does not lack personality and confidence: you can trace it in their designs as well. My preference goes for this double combination of monochrome and bright shades. This very Marc Jacobs-inspired choice would normally fall under my 'over the top' category, but there's something about it that works (and very well too!)
Designer Sef Farrugia seems to have found her niche! Apart from the gorgeous selection of hues and fabrics, what I appreciated in particular were the silhouettes used. You all know I have quite a thing for skirts that sit just above the natural waist paired with midriff-baring tops. This particular number above is easily wearable and very easy to recreate using high-street pieces!
The final piece I wanted to mention is this Celeste and Pavli Style comic-print dress. It was by far my favourite item in the entire show. Well, I happen to have a mini-obsession with these 'Boom', 'Splat', Bam!' keywords (in fact, I was planning to buy a similar top tomorrow!), and this just made it worse. Kudos, this was the show-stealer for me!
