I've been waiting to sport a pair of floral trousers ever since the onset of Spring, yet I had two problems. The first, there wasn't much Spring weather in either Brussels or London. Secondly, I didn't even own a pair until a few days ago. Tragedy.
However, now that the weather is slightly more Spring-oriented and that I finally laid my hands on a pair of floral ankle-grazing trousers from H&M, I can conjure up some styling ideas on how to wear this garden a pair of floral trousers (ie. chinos, jeans, carrot pants and all that jazz. Gotta love jazz)
The option above is the most basic combination I could come up with. Say you need a go-to outfit this Spring and maybe even early Summer. Why not pair your fave floral pants (preferably dark-hued) with a crisp white shirt. You can even add a denim jacket for those breezier times. Since these pants have a lot going on, it's always ideal to counteract the busyness with something much more muted. And, well really, you all know how I'm obsessed with white shirts. Hash white shirts will rule the world.
On a braver note, you could also pick a colour included in the trouser's colour palette and use it as the shade for your upper garment. The key to wear a coloured top or blouse with such pants without looking like a clown is to choose a hue that is minimally represented on your trousers. Say, coral is not the pants' predominant colour in this combination, so it makes sense to choose it as the main colour for the blouse. I also suggest keeping the silhouette quite basic for your upper garment. I'm really not a 'more is more' kind of person.
And for those who might want to venture out of the usual Boffism comfort zone, some pattern mixing wouldn't be such a bad idea. Now, in my world, stripes are the 'neutral' pattern: unlike dogtooth, plaid or animal print, stripes retain a certain classic feel that helps me accept the whole print clashing reality. A timeless Breton shirt and a bold floral pair of trousers is a look I want to reach out for more often.
Do you own floral pants? Any styling ideas?
